Taipei labor department chief discharged from hospital after attack

Taipei, Taipei City Department of Labor head Lai Hsiang-lin (???) was discharged from hospital Friday after being attacked in her office Wednesday and promised to continue fighting for labor rights.

Lai expressed her thanks to everyone who wished her a speedy recovery but added that she was sad and shocked the male suspect, since identified as Lee Ming-yen (???), resorted to violence. Lai noted that she and her department had worked hard on Lee's complaint and undertook to communicate better with society.

In a post on her Facebook page Friday morning, the labor department chief said that resorting to violence is never acceptable, adding that the incident will not stop the department from fighting for labor rights.

Hsiao Sheng-huang (???), Lai's doctor and superintendent of the Renai branch of Taipei City Hospital, said her condition is currently stable but post-traumatic stress disorder could still be a factor and so further observation will be necessary, adding that he is not sure when she can return to work.
