The reduced import duty on materials used to produce 75-percent alcohol products used as sanitizers or disinfectants has been extended for another six months, the Customs Administration said in a statement Wednesday.
The import duty was first cut from 20 percent to 10 percent in February 2020 amid the spread of COVID-19 and has since been extended several times.
To ensure sufficient supply of sanitizers and disinfectants in the face of the current COVID-19 situation in Taiwan, the reduced import duty will remain in place until Aug. 26, according to the statement.
As of Jan. 31, 45.47 million liters of raw materials had been imported since the reduced duty was introduced, resulting in tax relief of NT$118 million (US$3.90 million), the Customs Administration said.
