According to the statistics of Investment Commission of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, 1,948 foreign direct investment (FDI) projects with a total amount of US$6,070,066,000 were approved from January to July 2016. This indicates a decrease of -5.80% in the number of cases, but an increase of 162.73% in FDI amount compared with the same period of 2015.
With regard to inward investment from Mainland China, 89 cases were approved with an amount of US$165,614,000 from January to July 2016. This indicates increase in the FDI amount 127.01% compared with the same period of 2015. Aggregated from July 2009 to July 2016, 878 cases were approved with a total investment amount added up to US$1,608,830,000.
In terms of Taiwan’s outbound investment (except Mainland China), 287 projects were registered from January to July 2016 with a total amount of US$8,524,299,000 indicating a increase of 11.24% in the number of cases,and a increase of 2.38% in the amount as compared with the same period of 2015.
As for Taiwan’s outward investment to Mainland China, 136 applications have been approved from January to July 2016, indicating a decrease of 29.53% compared with the same period of 2015. The approved investment amount is US$5,818,050,000,2.62% more than the same period in 2015.
