Taiwanese students placed 1st, 3rd at Microsoft Office competition

Washington, Two Taiwanese college students from New Taipei have been awarded first and third places in Word 2013 and Excel 2013 at the Microsoft Office Specialist World Championship that was held in Orlando, Florida July 29-Aug. 1.

The competition, organized by Certiport, attracted more than 150 participants from over 65 countries who competed for prizes in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint in six categories.

Lin Chia-i (???), the first place winner in Word 2013, from Chihlee University of Technology, said she was very happy after the winners were announced, adding that it had never occurred to her that she could be the champion, as the competition had excellent participants from all over the world.

The third place winner in Excel 2013, Wang Li-ting (???), from Tamkang University, said she was surprised when the winners were announced, although she had spent three months preparing for the competition.

A student of information management, Wang said the skills developed for the competition will help enhance her ability in computer programming.
