All TransAsia Airways flights will be grounded for one day on Tuesday. That's the word from Civil Aeronautics Administration (CAA) official Fang Chih-wen on Monday.
Fang said the company told the CAA that it will ground both domestic and international flights.
So far, it's for one day only. We have already asked TransAsia Airways to deal with it properly, including dealing with passengers who have booked flights or those who show up at the airport tomorrow. Since we have yet to hear what they have to say about why they are grounding the flights, we are unable to speculate about the reason. We will continue asking about the reason and how long it will continue. We will continue following up on the matter and giving [information] to passengers." said Fang.
The CAA has asked the airline to report on the unexpected move as it will affect more than 5,000 passengers.
The company issued an apology on Monday night, although it will still be fined up to NT$3 million (US$100,000) for grounding its flights without prior notice.
