Taipei-The EMU900 commuter trains will begin official service in northern Taiwan on April 4, the operator Taiwan Railways Administration (TRA) said Saturday.
The trains will operate on a route from Shulin District in New Taipei to Keelung City, the railway company said.
The EMU900 trains, made by Hyundai Rotem of South Korea, have been described by TRA as the "most beautiful local trains" in its history. They feature silver and green livery, and each has 436 seats and 1,323 standing spaces in 10 carriages.
The updated software for the trains will soon be received from the manufacturer, and the final testing is expected to be completed this month, TRA said.
According to the railway company, Taiwan will take delivery of another 10 trains of the same model this year, 12 next year, and 28 in 2023.
The first two EMU900s in Taiwan's 52 trainset order from South Korea were delivered last October and will be officially launched on April 1, according to TRA.
