Taipei, Tens of thousands of people flooded the streets of Tianmu in suburban Taipei to attend the annual Halloween “trick-or-treat” festival on Saturday, Taiwan’s most popular Halloween event.
Dressed in a wide variety of costumes, the children taking part were in high spirits, brandishing jack-o’-lanterns, seeking free candy and taking photos with one another.
Now in its 12th year, the festival involved a fair at the Tianmu Sports Park, with at least 250 participating stores, various costume parties, family-fun activities and a parade the previous day.
Dressed as Disney character “Maleficent,” event-goer Huang Hsin-yi (黃馨儀) from Keelung said it took her and her friends 30 minutes to do the make up, adding that she felt excited about the fair and that it was a good opportunity for her children to celebrate the festival.
Tsou Ching-ying (鄒慶盈), who works at a Tianmu clinic that participated in the event, said she was visited by more than 100 people throughout the day, almost double the regular level.
“The event brought a good vibe of a Western-style holiday and it was fun,” said Tsou.
