TSMC raises NT$57.41 million for post-quake reconstruction in Hualien

Taipei, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) announced on Friday that its charity foundation has raised NT$57.41 million (US$1.97 million) for rebuilding in downtown Hualien City after a magnitude 6.0 earthquake in the eastern city caused widespread damage in early February.

According to TSMC, the money was raised from Feb. 12 to March 16, and will benefit 163 households whose homes were damaged in Guoguang and Guosheng villages, which were worst hit by the Feb. 6 earthquake.

The NT$57.41 million donation is made up of NT$20.76 million from TSMC employees, NT$20.76 million from TSMC and NT$15.89 million from Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International.

The money will be used to pay for rebuilding efforts in Hualien, including ongoing work to repair damaged apartments and ensure the safety of the power supply and infrastructure.

Reconstruction work has so far been completed on 22 of 163 residences, TSMC noted.
