Taipei, Taiwan will likely issue a sea warning for Super Typhoon Maria early next week, when it is projected to reach waters north of the island, the Central Weather Bureau said Saturday.
As of 2 a.m. Saturday, Maria was 2,220 kilometers east-southeast of Eluanbi on Taiwan's southernmost tip, and was moving in a west-northwesterly direction toward waters north of the island, the bureau said.
Based on its current path, the typhoon would sweep through Taiwan's northern waters and be at its closest to the main island on Tuesday and Wednesday, CWB forecaster Yen Tseng-hsi (???) said.
Under that scenario, the CWB would issue a sea warning between late Monday and early Tuesday, he said.
