Taipei, The Buddhist Compassion Relief Tzu Chi Foundation has sent 18,900 blankets to the Philippines in anticipation of the need for such resources during this year’s typhoon season.
According to a statement from Tzu Chi released Friday, the foundation is helping the Philippines stock up on blankets in case severe typhoons and other natural disasters hit the country and displace people from their homes.
The blankets are made from recycled PET bottles.
12 officials from the Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO) in Taipei helped Tzu Chi to pack the blankets into boxes before being dispatched, the statement noted.
Carlo Aquino, MECO’s deputy representative, said the blankets will be very useful, especially to the poor.
