Japanese low-cost carrier Vanilla Air launched a new route between Taoyuan and Ho Chi Minh City on Wednesday, a day before it was to open service between Taoyuan and Okinawa.
The daily round-trip flights between Taoyuan and Ho Chi Minh City depart from Taoyuan International Airport at 9:50 p.m. and leave from Ho Chi Minh City back to Taoyuan at 1:35 a.m. local time.
Flights between Taoyuan and Okinawa will leave Taoyuan at 6:10 a.m. in Taoyuan and depart from Okinawa at 9:10 p.m. local time on the return leg, according to the carrier.
“The Taiwanese market is very, very important to us,” said Vanilla Air President Katsuya Goto, explaining that up to 80 percent of its passengers are Taiwanese.
That’s why the budget carrier said it hoped to make Taiwan its “second base” and noted that it was planning to add more flights between Taiwan and destinations outside of Japan to expand the market.
Vanilla Air already operates routes between Taoyuan and Osaka and Tokyo (Narita) and between Kaohsiung and Tokyo (Narita).
