Vienna Philharmonic New Year concert to be broadcast in Taiwan

Taipei, The New Year concert of 2019, a traditional event hosted by the Vienna Philharmonic in Vienna, Austria, will be broadcast live in Taiwan Tuesday evening, according to Taiwan Television Enterprise (TTV), which has obtained the exclusive right to broadcast the concert in the Taiwan.

The high-profile annual musical event will take place from 6:15 p.m. (Taiwan time) to 8:50 p.m. in the Musikverein, under the baton of German conductor Christian Thielemann, TTV said in a press release.

The concert will also be broadcast on big LED screens installed for the event in the outdoor theater of the Weiwuying National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts and in the grand hall of the National Palace Museum's Southern Branch in Chiayi County, southern Taiwan, TTV said.

Taiwanese music lovers will be able to "participate in the musical gala simultaneously with their counterparts in more than 90 countries around the world," TTV said.

Thielemann serves as principal conductor of the Dresden Staatskapelle and artistic director of the Salzburg Easter Festival. He has since 2000 been a musical partner of the Vienna Philharmonic, according to information on the orchestra's official website.

"The New Year Concert 2019 represents Thielemann's first time to conduct this prestigious international concert event," the Vienna Philharmonic said.
