2 Children Dead, Mother Injured in Suspected Murder-Suicide in Miaoli

Miaoli: A 9-year-old boy and an 8-month-old girl were found dead, while their mother was discovered alive with slash wounds on her neck and wrists in a suspected murder-suicide case at an apartment building in Miaoli County, authorities reported.

According to Focus Taiwan, the Miaoli County Fire Bureau received a distress call at 2:20 p.m. on Monday, directing them to a residence in Toufen City. Upon arrival, first responders discovered three individuals lying in a bedroom, including two children who were already visibly deceased. The children's mother, a woman in her 30s surnamed Wu, was found alive with critical injuries, including a knife lodged in her chest.

The fire bureau reported that after tending to Wu's injuries, paramedics transported her to a local hospital where she was treated for non-life-threatening wounds. Sources at the bureau revealed that Wu's husband had recently moved out and was residing elsewhere. Upon returning to the house on Monday, he discovered Wu and their two children in the bedroom and immediately contacted emergency services.

Police, who commenced an investigation thereafter, stated that no suicide note or traces of burned charcoal were present at the scene. Miaoli police indicated that autopsies would be required to ascertain the children's cause of death.
