Tainan: Two AH-1W Super Cobra attack helicopters executed a deep-defense exercise in Tainan on Wednesday, as part of Taiwan's Joint Defense Exercises, according to the Fourth Theater Command on Thursday. This maneuver was designed to assess the military's capability to maintain combat power and sustain operations under wartime conditions.
According to Focus Taiwan, the exercise, organized by the Army Aviation and Training Command, was integral to the five-day Joint Defense Exercises, which entered their third day on Wednesday. The Fourth Theater Command reported that the two AH-1W helicopters were tasked with relocating to a rear-area dispersal zone in Tainan's Nanhua District as a component of their deep-defense training.
Guided by ground command personnel, the helicopters successfully landed at a designated site. The crews performed dispersal procedures and completed other tactical tasks before taking off again, following operational orders. This exercise emphasized the military's capability to conserve combat power while affirming the rapid mobility of Army aviation units and the effectiveness of ground support operations.
The Fourth Theater Command highlighted that the AH-1W Super Cobra is capable of operating under all weather conditions. Its primary role is to provide aerial fire support and escort assault operations. The helicopter's versatility allows it to be equipped with various air-to-air and air-to-ground weapons based on mission requirements and enables highly maneuverable, low-altitude attacks in complex terrains, including nighttime operations.
Additionally, the AH-1W's advanced fire-control system facilitates precision strikes in joint air-ground operations, reinforcing its status as a principal attack helicopter platform within the Army, the command noted.
