Air Force chief Hsiung Hou-chi appointed advisor to president

The Presidential Office announced Friday that Air Force Commander-in-Chief Hsiung Hou-chi (???) is to be appointed an advisor on military strategy to the president, effective May 1.

The transfer was made due to health issues, according to Presidential Office Spokesperson Xavier Chang (???), who quoted President Tsai Ing-wen (???) as wishing General Hsiung a speedy recovery.

The president recognizes Hsiung's contribution to the country during his three-year tenure, particularly given increasingly frequent incursions by Chinese military aircraft into Taiwan's air defense identification zone (ADIZ), Chang said.

Hsiung has served as deputy commander-in-chief of the Air Force, commander of the Air Force Combatant Command, as well as director of the Ministry of National Defense administrative office, among other postings in his military career.

Vice Chief of Air Force Liu Jen-yuan (???) will replace Hsiung as Air Force Commander-in-Chief and be promoted from lieutenant general to general on the same date, Chang said.
