Another arrest for illegally harvesting fragrant wood in Khao Yai National Park

Nakhon Ratchasima, Khao Yai National Park Chief reveals arrest of a gang of agarwood smugglers in Khao Yai National Park, arresting 2 suspects along with evidence, sent to Mu Si Police Station for prosecution. Mr. Chaiya Huaihongthong, Chief of Khao Yai National Park, said that officers from the 3rd patrol unit of the Natural Resources Conservation and Forest Fire Control Division of Khao Yai National Park arrested two offenders who illegally cut agarwood in Khao Yai National Park, namely Mr. Anan, aged 32, and Mr. Sangwan, aged 50, who are registered in Prachantakham District, Prachin Buri Province. The area where the offender was found was Khlong Hin Hin Forest, Tambon Mu Si, Amphoe Pak Chong, Nakhon Ratchasima Province, in the Khao Yai National Park area. The evidence found included pieces of agarwood weighing a total of 18.90 kilograms (weighed while fresh), along with two bow saws, two knives, one axe, and one hoe. The officers charged him with violating the National Parks Act 2019, Section 19 (2), ( 6), (7), Section 56, and Section 20, as well as violating the Forestry Act 1941, Section 11, and 73. The suspect and evidence were then taken to Mu Si Police Station, Nakhon Ratchasima Province, for legal proceedings. The chief of Khao Yai National Park said that recently there have been frequent smuggling of aromatic wood into Khao Yai National Park, involving both Thai and foreign groups.
