Asustek, TSMC among Forbes’ ‘most admired’ companies in 2022

Taiwanese computer company Asustek Computer Inc. (ASUS), and the world's largest contract chipmaker Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) were the only two local firms to make Forbes' annual list of the world's most admired companies.

In a statement released Monday, Asustek said the PC vendor performed well in the "innovativeness", "social responsibility to the community and the environment," and "quality of products or services," categories, which had seen the company make Forbes' list for the seventh time.

The firms in the 2022 list we also judged on their ability to attract and retain talented people, quality of management, use of corporate assets, financial soundness, long-term investment value, and effectiveness in doing business globally, according to Forbes.

In another statement, Forbes said it had partnered with global consulting firm Korn Ferry since 1997 to identify and rank the world's most admired companies for the annual list.

For 2022, the two partners had assessed about 1,500 candidates from Fortune 1000 and Global 500 companies, Forbes said.

Forbes said big tech companies dominated the 2022 list due to their outsized influence on the economy according to the 3,700 corporate executives, directors, and analysts polled by the consulting firm.

Consumer electronics giant Apple Inc. took the top spot for the 15th consecutive year, ahead of Amazon.com, Microsoft Corp., Pfizer Inc., the Walt Disney Co., Berkshire Hathaway Inc., Starbucks, Netflix, and JPMorgan Chase.

According to Forbes, only companies ordered No. 1 through No. 50 are ranked on the list, while the "order" numbers beyond the Top 50, referring to 51 through 333, on the list were used to sort the rest of the companies but did not reflect their rankings.

Asustek and TSMC have order number of 76 and 289, respectively, and the orders did not reflect their rankings on the 2022 list.

Before the Forbes 2022 most admired company list, Asustek was named among the top 100 innovation institutions by Clarivate last year and took the top place in the 2021 Best Taiwan Global Brands survey released by the Ministry of Economic Affairs.
