Bullet train service to be increased ahead of year end

Taiwan High Speed Rail Corp. (THSRC) announced Monday that its bullet train service will be increased from this week to meet traditionally rising traffic demand ahead of the year end.

In a statement, THSRC said it will put on extra services by operating six additional trains (two southbound trains on Fridays, two southbound and two northbound trains on Sundays) from Nov. 18 to Dec. 25 (excluding the Nov. 25-27 period, with the local elections being held on Nov. 26)

Ticket reservations for these extra services will start from Wednesday for trips before Dec. 11. Passengers can purchase tickets via the T Express ticketing app and THSRC’s official mobile booking system, at designated convenience stores, through its website and automated phone service, or by using a ticket counter or ticket vending machine, the statement said.

Groups of 20 or more are entitled to a 20-30 percent discount if they book tickets for reserved seats at standard carriages on designated trains and dates for the same departure and destination, the statement said.

Student groups of 11 or more (including adult passengers) are also eligible for a 30 percent discount under the company’s preferential “field trip” program, if they book tickets based on the same terms and conditions.

To help voters cast ballots in the place where they have their household registration in the upcoming local government elections, THSRC announced late last month that an extra 52 train services will operate from Nov. 25-28, with ticket bookings accessible via the same methods and locations from Nov. 16.
