The Central Taiwan Science Park (CTSP) is expected to generate NT$1 trillion (US$36.15 billion) in revenue this year, having achieved positive growth during the COVID-19 pandemic, the CTSP administrator said Wednesday.
The science park had estimated earlier this year that it would make about NT$960 billion by the end of the year, CTSP Administration Office Director-General Hsu Mao-hsin (???) said at a press conference.
After achieving year-on-year growth of 11.5 percent in revenue for the first six months of this year, the CTSP could see its annual revenue break the NT$1-trillion mark for 2021 if companies in the park push a little harder, Hsu said.
According to Hsu, the CTSP earned NT$482.79 billion in revenue in the first half of the year, up 11.48 percent from the same period last year, while its exports reached NT$280 billion in the six-month period, which was a 13.95-percent increase year-on-year.
The figures show that although the park was faced with crises of drought and water rationing, as well as a nationwide surge in domestic COVID-19 infections earlier this year, it managed to perform positively, Hsu said.
Since the science park was established 18 years ago, it had attracted 225 high-tech domestic and foreign companies as of the end of June this year to invest, with the combined investment surpassing NT$2.22 trillion.
CTSP consists of five divisions located in different locations in central Taiwan, including Taichung and Nantou County.
