Taipei: Taiwan's China Airlines has announced that it will transport disaster relief supplies to Thailand and Myanmar without charge following a powerful earthquake that hit central Myanmar on Friday afternoon. The airline released a statement on Saturday detailing their commitment to aid efforts.
According to Focus Taiwan, the airline emphasized its dedication to assisting Taiwanese nationals and other travelers impacted by the disaster. China Airlines expressed its willingness to collaborate with government bodies and charitable organizations to provide support to the affected regions.
The airline confirmed that its flight operations to and from Myanmar's commercial hub, Yangon, and Chiang Mai in northern Thailand remain unaffected by the earthquake. Additionally, China Airlines announced that tickets for travel to and from Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Yangon booked before April 15 can be canceled or altered without incurring fees.
Similarly, EVA Airways, another Taiwanese airline, stated on its website that tickets to and from Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Yangon, issued before March 29 for travel between March 29 and April 30, can be canceled or changed once without a fee. Starlux Airlines also offered flexibility, allowing Starlux tickets to and from Bangkok and Chiang Mai for travel before April 4 to be canceled or modified at no additional cost.
The magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck near Mandalay, Myanmar's second-largest city, at a depth of 10 kilometers. The seismic event resulted in significant damage throughout Myanmar and in neighboring Thailand.
