Four individuals confirmed Tuesday as having been infected with COVID-19 had taken the Taipei MRT and visited several stores in New Taipei, including an IKEA store in Xinzhuang District, before testing positive for the disease, according to the city's Department of Health.
The patients are a family of four -- a father, mother, and their two daughters -- who live in New Taipei's Banqiao District. The younger daughter, who is in her 20s, tested positive after showing symptoms of the disease, and her three family members subsequently also tested positive, the department said Tuesday.
The source of their infection is still unknown, the department said.
The younger daughter is a student at a university in Taipei, although she was not on campus during winter break, the department said.
The family's elder daughter is an employee at Deloitte Taiwan and she worked at the firm's office in Taipei's Xinyi District from Friday to Monday before she tested positive, according to the company.
Prior to testing positive for the disease, the four individuals had taken the Taipei MRT between Feb. 2 and 7, traveling on the Bannan (blue) line between Xinpu and Taipei Main Station, the Songshan-Xindian (green) line between Ximen and Songjiang Nanjing, the Tamsui-Xinyi (red) line between Taipei Main Station and Xiangshan, the Circular (yellow) line between Touqianzhuang and Xinpu Minsheng, and the Zhonghe-Xinlu Line (orange) line between Touqianzhuang and Danfeng.
They had also been to the IKEA store in Xinzhuang District as well as several stores in Xinzhuang and Banqiao District, which CNA has detailed using Google Maps, embedded below.
People who have been to these locations should get tested immediately if they develop COVID-19 symptoms, the department said.
Taipei's Department of Health said Tuesday that several members of the family had been to Taipei before testing positive and that a list of places they visited would be released on Wednesday.
