A woman is being retested for COVID-19, after the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) received a report of a probable domestic case who may have been infected at the workplace, Health Minister Chen Shih-chung (???) said Thursday.
Chen said the CECC, which he heads, had received a report from the health department of New Taipei City, where the possible case lives, and tests were being run to check the initial results.
The probable case, which if confirmed would become the first locally acquired infection in 35 days, is a woman in her 20s, who works at a lab in Taipei's Nangang District, a source familiar with the matter said.
The woman, according to the source, had a relatively low cycle threshold (CT) value in her initial test, which indicated that she was likely infected recently.
She had gotten the test at a hospital on Dec. 8 after having had symptoms for about a week, according to the CECC.
The health department of New Taipei City told CNA that it is working on contact tracing, and further investigating the case. It also said it expects the CECC to formally confirm the results on Friday.
A rapid test station will be set up at Taipei City Hospital's Zhongxiao branch in Nangang, the source said.
According to local media reports, the possible case works at a lab at Academia Sinica, Taiwan's top research institute, where she contracted COVID-19.
When asked about the possible case, Academia Sinica told CNA all related information would be released by the CECC.
Taiwan last reported a domestic COVID-19 case on Nov. 4.
