A walk-in COVID-19 vaccination service will be set up at Penghu Airport in the offshore county during the upcoming long weekend in early April, the county's Public Health Bureau has announced.
With the anticipated influx of travelers over the holiday, which covers Children's Day on April 4 and Tomb Sweeping Day on April 5, the walk-in vaccination site at Penghu Airport will be offering first, second, and booster COVID-19 vaccine doses from April 2-5, according to a bureau statement released Monday.
The bureau cited lower-than-average vaccination rates among local residents aged 75 and above as one of the reasons for setting up the service.
According to the bureau, only 68.3 percent of this age cohort have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, while 62.6 percent have been given two doses, and 44.2 percent have received an additional booster dose.
All those aged 18 and above can go to the planned vaccination site at the airport to receive a dose, while those aged 65 and above will be given shopping vouchers worth NT$500 for getting vaccinated, the bureau said.
To date, 83.4 percent of Taiwan's 23.32 million population have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, while 78.28 percent have been given at least two doses, and 49.69 percent have received a booster dose, according to data released by the Centers for Disease Control Wednesday.
