Yilan:A tragic accident occurred on Saturday at the Yilan Science Park in northeastern Taiwan when a crane tipped over during the cleaning of an office building's exterior wall, resulting in the death of one worker and injuries to another.
According to Focus Taiwan, the Yilan County Fire Bureau reported receiving an emergency call at 849 a.m. regarding two workers who had fallen after their crane unexpectedly toppled on Yike South Road. Swiftly responding, the bureau dispatched rescue teams from both its Yilan and Yuanshan divisions.
Upon arrival, rescuers found one of the workers, identified by his surname Chen, had no vital signs. He was transported to National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University Hospital for emergency treatment but was pronounced dead at 1005 a.m.
The other worker, surnamed Wu, was conscious and initially diagnosed with a fractured left femur, a deformed left thigh, and additional injuries including a chin laceration and abrasions on his right elbow and fingers. He is undergoing further examination at the same hospital.
The cause of the accident is under investigation by the relevant authorities, as stated by the fire bureau.
