Dumpling chain Din Tai Fung to raise prices by 4 percent from Nov. 22

Renowned Taiwanese dumpling chain Din Tai Fung said Tuesday it will increase its prices by an average of 4 percent from next week in the wake of rising costs and staff shortages due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The work and materials involved at each stage of production all have their respective costs. After much consideration, starting November 22, 2022, we will slightly increase the price of several dishes,” the restaurant said on its website.

A total of 140 dishes will be affected — including its signature pork xiaolongbao (dumplings), which will increase in price from NT$23 to NT$25 (US$0.78) for each one — Din Tai Fung said.

The restaurant’s steamed chicken soup will also increase by NT$10 to NT$230, while shrimp fried rice with egg will rise from NT$250 to NT$270.

This is the second year in a row Din Tai Fung has raised its prices.
