San Francisco:Former President Tsai Ing-wen has advocated for stronger bilateral ties between Taiwan and Silicon Valley during a meeting with young tech entrepreneurs at the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in San Francisco.
According to Focus Taiwan, Tsai met with members of Silicon Valley's tech startup and venture capital communities after her visit to Stanford University. This meeting marked her second consecutive day engaging with the tech industry in the area.
In her speech, Tsai highlighted that her visit to the San Francisco Bay Area was her first trip to the United States since leaving office. The visit included accepting an invitation from Stanford University and engaging with Taiwanese individuals involved in technology, studying, or pursuing entrepreneurial projects in the region.
Tsai emphasized Taiwan's growing global connections through its contributions to semiconductors, artificial intelligence, information and communications technology, biomedicine, and other fields. She suggested that Taiwan should explore offering more to the world beyond its technological advancements.
She encouraged young Taiwanese in the tech sector to share Taiwan's experiences and stories with the world while gaining valuable insights from Silicon Valley regarding technology, talent, investment, and innovative work methods. Tsai stressed that a country's strength is not only in its government and businesses but also in its people, particularly young individuals willing to take risks.
Tsai, Taiwan's first female president who served from 2016-2024, arrived in the United States on Monday and is set to return to Taiwan on Sunday.
