Tainan:A fire erupted at a migrant worker dormitory in Tainan on Saturday morning, resulting in injuries to four individuals, including a Filipino man who was hospitalized. Over 300 workers were evacuated from the building, as reported by the city's Fire Department.
According to Focus Taiwan, the incident occurred at a four-story dormitory in Annan District. The fire department received the alert at 723 a.m. and promptly dispatched 32 fire trucks, ambulances, and related vehicles, along with 68 firefighters and rescue personnel.
The fire was brought under control by 755 a.m. and fully extinguished by 757 a.m. While more than 300 residents were evacuated, three of the injured declined hospital treatment. The Filipino man, however, was taken to Chi Mei Hospital after inhaling smoke, although he remained conscious and his condition is not life-threatening.
Reports indicate that the injured man, in his 30s, had carbon particles in his nostrils. The dormitory typically accommodates over 400 residents, but some were absent due to the National Day holiday.
The blaze originated on the building's first floor, where debris ignited, causing smoke to spread to the upper floors. Firefighters rescued two workers using masks and evacuated eight others with an aerial platform. The cause of the fire and the extent of property damage are still under investigation.
