Hanwha Aerospace Co., South Korea's major defense and space company, said Tuesday it has developed the industry's first nonflammable battery solutions, presenting a safer alternative for energy storage systems (ESS) and electric vehicles. In collaboration with SK Enmove Co., a chemical company, Hanwha Aerospace created an immersion cooling ESS that utilizes advanced thermal fluid technology. This innovation fills lithium-ion battery modules with cooling thermal fluid, effectively isolating each cell and naturally cooling them to prevent potential ignition caused by heat or other factors. The design offers a safety improvement over conventional air- and water-cooled ESS models, the company said. The new technology has already received certifications from major global institutions, including Norway-based DNV and the Korean Register of Shipping, the company added. Source: Yonhap News Agency
