HTC Vive launches virtual concert platform

Taiwan-based HTC Vive Originals on Monday launched a concert platform that allows for recorded performances to be projected into a live virtual venue and accessed by audiences around the world.

Beatday, as the platform is called, is available for use on desktop computers and mobile devices, according to HTC Vive Originals, the content arm of HTC Corp.

The initial content on Beatday will feature recorded concerts and music videos, using holography technology, which utilizes light diffraction to create a live virtual three-dimensional venue, the company said.

Audience members can attend the "live" concert by creating their own avatar, which can enter the virtual venue, it said.

HTC Vive Originals had long set sights on the ushering in the era of the metaverse, which is based on new technologies such as XR, blockchain and artificial intelligence, according to its president Liu Szu-ming (???).

The development of Beatday is aimed at providing a unique entertainment experience for audiences and allowing them greater involvement in the metaverse era, he said.

Metaverse, a term coined in Neal Stephenson's 1992 science fiction novel "Snow Crash," describes a collective virtual shared space where humans, as avatars, interact with each other and software agents, in a three-dimensional virtual space that uses the metaphor of the real world.
