Japan logistics startup Willbox secures funding to enter Taiwan market

A fund linked to the Hsinchu-based Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) is to invest NT$153 million (US$4.9 million) to help the Japanese digital logistics startup Willbox enter the Taiwan market.

The Industrial Technology Investment Corp. (ITIC), the investment arm of the government-backed ITRI, decided to support Willbox due to the startup’s ability to fuse information technology with logistics upgrades, according to ITIC General Manager Michel Chu (瞿志豪).

The Yokohama-based Willbox has said it plans to set up a branch in Taiwan next year, with the aim of providing Taiwanese firms looking to integrate logistics resources with an advantage amid a global digital revolution.

Satoi Wang (王哲瑋), the Willbox executive in charge of the Taiwan market, said he has been in talks with more than 70 logistics service providers serving Taiwan’s four major commercial ports to forge fast, cheap, and clear business opportunities for both sides.
