Taipei: 3coins, the popular Japanese discount variety goods chain, is set to make its debut in Taiwan this August, capturing the interest of many Taiwanese who frequent the chain while visiting Japan.
According to Focus Taiwan, the company announced through a Threads post that its first shop in Taiwan will open within an Eslite Spectrum outlet on Wuchang Street, situated in the bustling Ximending business district of Taipei. The retailer enthusiastically invited customers to "welcome 3coins' grand debut in Taiwan." Eslite, a leading bookstore chain in Taiwan, confirmed that the shop will be located on the fourth floor of its Wuchang branch, a venue celebrated for its focus on "playful lifestyle" and "fresh and fun trends."
3coins has gained popularity in Japan through its effective pricing strategy, offering most of its merchandise at a simple price of 300 Japanese yen (approximately US$1.89 or about NT$60). This approach has attracted a diverse range of consumers, making the chain a favorite destination for many. The retailer's offerings include a vast array of products, such as kitchenware, home decoration, cosmetics, beauty goods, kids' items, toys, travel goods, and seasonal merchandise.
The business model of 3coins is often likened to that of Daiso, another Japanese discount variety chain that established its presence in Taiwan in the early 2000s. Lin Shi-bi, an independent traveler with a penchant for Japan, mentioned on his Facebook page that he is closely monitoring how 3coins plans to price its products in the Taiwanese market. He speculated that the brand's standard price could be adjusted to three NT$50 coins in Taiwan.
