Korean Air to discontinue cup noodle service for economy passengers on long-haul flights over safety concerns

Korean Air Co. said Thursday it will discontinue the provision of instant noodles for economy class passengers on long-haul routes over concerns of burn injuries. South Korea's leading full-service air carrier said it will revamp its in-flight snack service for long-haul routes, starting Aug. 15. The company will discontinue the provision of "ramyeon," or instant cup noodles, and replace them with a variety of snacks. The company said the move is aimed at preventing burn injuries caused by hot water. In the economy class, flight attendants often have to carry multiple cups of noodles with hot water at once to passengers seated closely together, increasing the risk of accidents. Korean Air said it will offer new in-flight snacks, such as hot dogs, pizza and hot pockets, in addition to sandwiches that were already being provided.
