Magnitude 4.9 Earthquake Rocks Hualien in Eastern Taiwan

Hualien: A magnitude 4.9 earthquake struck Hualien County, eastern Taiwan, at 7:55 p.m. Wednesday, according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA). The epicenter of the temblor was located 25.9 kilometers south-southwest of Hualien County Hall, in Fenglin Township, at a depth of 10.2 km, CWA data showed.

According to Focus Taiwan, the intensity of the quake, gauging the actual effect of a seismic event, was highest in Hualien and Nantou counties, where it measured a 4 on Taiwan's 7-tier intensity scale. It also measured a 3 in Yilan County, according to CWA data.

There were no immediate reports of damage following the quake.
