Mercury to drop with arrival of season’s first weather front

The first autumn weather front this year is expected to bring daytime highs in northern Taiwan down by 10 degrees Celsius this weekend from current levels, the Central Weather Bureau (CWB) said Friday.

This cooler weather from seasonal northeasterly winds will begin affecting Taiwan on Saturday, when the front will approach and pass over the northern half of the island, the CWB said.

Temperatures will still exceed 30 degrees in the region Saturday morning before falling later in the afternoon, according to CWB forecaster Hsu Chung-yi (???).

Daytime highs in northern Taiwan on Sunday will be capped at 25 degrees, and will barely reach 20 degrees in coastal areas, Hsu said, with rain also expected in parts of northern and northeastern Taiwan.

The cooler weather will also be felt in southern Taiwan, though not as obviously as in the north, he said.

More stable weather is forecast to return Tuesday as the northeasterly winds weaken, bringing temperatures back up across the country, according to the CWB forecaster.
