MiTAC Computing to Invest NT$12.62 Billion in Taiwan’s Server Manufacturing

Taoyuan:Taipei MiTAC Computing Technology Corp., a company specializing in server and data center solutions, has been approved for a NT$12.62 billion (US$388 million) investment to enhance its high-end server production capacity in Taiwan. The Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) announced the approval on Monday.

According to Focus Taiwan, the investment was greenlit by Invest Taiwan, an interministerial agency within the MOEA, as part of the government's initiative to encourage overseas Taiwanese businesses to return and invest domestically. MiTAC Computing, a subsidiary of MiTAC Holdings Corp., plans to construct a new manufacturing facility in the Yangmei District of Taoyuan and expand current production lines in Zhunan, Miaoli County, and Linkou, New Taipei.

This expansion is anticipated to create 300 jobs locally. The MOEA stated that the expansion aims to satisfy increasing demand for AI computing. MiTAC Computing intends to incorporate smart manufacturing technologies and establish an enterprise AI computing center to boost production efficiency and support data analysis and digital twin applications. This marks the second investment plan filed by MiTAC Computing under the government's reshoring program since its inception in 2019.

The ministry emphasized that this investment will bolster Taiwan's smart manufacturing capabilities and strengthen its position in the global AI supply chain. Statistics from the ministry indicate that the government's three principal investment incentive programs have attracted NT$2.84 trillion in investments from 1,830 companies, creating approximately 170,481 local jobs. The reshoring program alone has drawn 368 companies, with planned investments of about NT$1.55 trillion, generating 97,136 jobs, while another 14 applications are under review.
