MLB Scout Saves Woman from Drowning in Taitung Seaside Park

Taitung: A scout for Major League Baseball's Kansas City Royals rescued a drunk Taiwanese woman who fell into the sea at Taitung Seaside Park in Taitung County, southeastern Taiwan, on Wednesday.

According to Focus Taiwan, Nathan D. Miller, the MLB scout, reported that he noticed the woman behaving strangely as she walked toward the water while he was walking along the shore. Miller recounted that although he couldn't hear her calls for help due to the loud waves, he sensed something was amiss.

Despite his fear of water and inability to swim, Miller ventured into the sea to assist the woman. With the help of three nearby students, he successfully pulled her to safety onshore. Miller, 51, expressed that he was initially hesitant to act, as he has an 18-year-old son and a 10-year-old daughter, and he considered their well-being before proceeding.

Miller sustained several cuts and abrasions on his legs from rocks during the rescue but declined medical attention. He shared that he first arrived in Taiwan in 1998 and has been residing there since 2005. Miller, showcasing a ring with the Kansas City Royals logo, mentioned that he has been working as a scout for the team for over ten years and was in Taitung to scout a junior high school pitcher participating in a local tournament.
