TAIPEI: New Taipei Metro's Circular (Yellow) Line is set to resume full service at noon on Thursday after the completion of extensive repairs on a section of the line damaged by a significant earthquake in April, the city's mayor announced. The reopening marks the end of a prolonged closure between Banqiao and Zhonghe stations, following successful safety tests on the repaired section. According to Focus Taiwan, the 7.2 magnitude earthquake that struck Taiwan on April 3 led to the immediate closure of the Circular Line. The most severe damage occurred between Banxin and Zhongyuan stations, where box girders were misaligned. While service on other parts of the line was restored shortly after the earthquake, the section between Banqiao and Zhonghe stations has remained closed until now, necessitating comprehensive repairs and safety assessments. New Taipei Mayor Hou Yu-ih confirmed that the repairs have been completed and that safety tests have ensured the line's readiness for full operation. The reopening is expected to ease transportation challenges faced by commuters and restore normalcy to the city's metro services.
