Jakarta (ANTARA) - The government has projected that the music industry's contribution to the gross domestic product (GDP) could reach Rp7 trillion or around US$466.75 million this year, according to Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno.He stated in a statement released on Monday that the industry contributed Rp6 trillion or US$400.07 million to the national GDP in 2020. Since then, the figure has continued to grow in a positive direction up until 2022, leading the government to make this projection. "We want music to be the most important and leading part of the creative economy sub-sector," he remarked. He explained that in addition to the GDP contribution of US$466.75 million, the government is also targeting the employment of 70,000 workers in the music industry this year. "I expect that it can employ up to 70,000 workers. When it comes to the workforce, music is the sub-sector that employs the most," he said. On Monday, he also commended the efforts made by the private sector to contribute and nurture musical talents for 25 years in the Indonesian entertainment industry. Meanwhile, Shridhar Subramaniam, President of Corporate Strategy and Market Development, Asia and the Middle East for Sony Music Entertainment (SME), expressed the company's honor in continuously developing creativity through the representation of a new creative space. dditionally, he stated that it was an honor to promote numerous musical talents in the global market.
