Global K-pop stars NewJeans will perform during the halftime of a preseason football match between Tottenham Hotspur and Bayern Munich in Seoul next month, the match organizer said Thursday. Coupang Play, the South Korean streaming platform, announced the five-piece girl group as the halftime performer for the second match of the annual Coupang Play Series at Seoul World Cup Stadium on Aug. 3. For the first match between Tottenham and Team K League scheduled for July 31, another K-pop act, TWICE, will perform the halftime show. NewJeans have enjoyed a rapid rise to stardom since their debut in July 2022. The group's second EP, "Get Up," reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 last July. Both of the European clubs boast South Korean stars. Spurs are captained by Son Heung-min, who also wears the armband for the national team, and Bayern's backline features center back Kim Min-jae. Tickets for both of the exhibition matches have sold out. Source: Yonhap News Agency
