PHOTO ESSAY/Drones take flight to illuminate Taiwan skies for lantern festival

Several cities and counties around Taiwan are illuminating night skies with light spectacles as they prepare for the upcoming Lantern Festival celebrations.

Certain locations, such as Kaohsiung and Nantou County, have employed fleets of drones to perform light shows and conduct what Kaohsiung Deputy Mayor Shih Che (??) called "jaw dropping spectacles."

Kaohsiung is hosting the 2022 Taiwan Lantern Festival and is dividing the show into different sections to feature different themes.

Aside from constructing massive themed lanterns, certain locations have also opted for a simpler aesthetic with smaller and more traditional lanterns.

Several up and coming artists have been able to present more traditional lanterns with a modern twist, thanks to their novel use of color and design.

Because lantern festivals tend to be major attractions, organizing governments tend to redesign traffic routes to accommodate the increase in vehicle and foot traffic.

They also tend to create interactive programs such as staging performances or having people solve traditional riddles so that festival goers can do more than just enjoy the lanterns on display.
