Manila:President Lai Ching-te highlighted a significant government initiative to invest NT$11.755 billion (US$371.79 million) by 2029, aimed at enhancing teachers' digital and artificial intelligence (AI) skills.
According to Focus Taiwan, Lai emphasized the crucial role teachers play in guiding student learning and personal growth. He acknowledged the challenges educators face, such as teacher shortages, parent-teacher communication, student counseling, and administrative duties.
The Ministry of Education (MOE) has implemented the "AI Talent Ark Program" to bolster teaching capabilities and create AI-enabled learning environments in elementary and secondary schools. This program is designed to enrich digital teaching materials, develop AI learning systems, provide practical AI training and support to teachers, and improve educational data analytics to facilitate personalized instruction.
President Lai noted that while technology can enhance teaching efficiency, the role of teachers in understanding and guiding students is irreplaceable. He assured that the government is committed to listening to educators, improving teaching conditions, and ensuring teachers receive the respect and support needed to focus on their teaching responsibilities.
Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim also celebrated Teachers' Day by sending holiday greetings to teachers through a Facebook post. She shared a video in which educators reflected on their most rewarding moments, accompanied by messages of appreciation from students.
