Rain in northern, eastern Taiwan to continue until Tuesday: CWB

Under the influence of seasonal northeasterly winds, northern and eastern parts of Taiwan will continue to see brief showers until Tuesday morning, according to the Central Weather Bureau (CWB).

In addition, temperatures will hover around 20 degrees Celsius through Monday in areas north of Taoyuan and could dip as low as 14 degrees Tuesday, CWB forecaster Lin Ting-I (???) told CNA.

Skies will be clear across most of the country from Tuesday to Thursday, with only sporadic rainfall in the east and temperatures in northern Taiwan could rise as highs as 25 degrees, Lin said.

Seasonal northeasterly winds will strengthen again Friday and continue to affect Taiwan over the weekend, lowering temperatures across the country and bringing rain to northern and eastern areas, Lin said.

A tropical depression currently in waters east of the Philippines could strengthen into a tropical storm on Monday, though it is not forecast to hit Taiwan directly, Lin added.

The Environmental Protection Administration (EPA) said on Sunday that northeasterly winds will bring pollutants to Taiwan, and the western half of the country could see an "orange" alert, indicating unhealthy air quality for sensitive groups, on Monday.

Southern Taiwan could experience a brief "red" alert, which signals unhealthy air for the general public, the EPA said.
