Substation malfunction in Changhua leaves 130,000 homes without power

About 130,000 households in parts of Changhua County were left without power Friday morning due to an electrical substation equipment malfunction, according to state-run Taiwan Power Co. (Taipower).

Chen Chu-hu (陳据湖), who heads the company’s Changhua branch office, said the malfunction at 11:17 a.m. caused the substation’s safety switch to trip, leaving homes in southern Changhua, including Beidou, Puyan and Fangyuan townships, without power.

However, power was quickly restored to all affected households at 11:48 a.m. the same day, after technicians relayed electricity supply through an alternative grid, Chen said.

As of press time, Taipower said it was still looking into the cause of the substation equipment malfunction, and apologized to those affected by the service interruption.
