Taichung Mall Pledges NT$11 Million Compensation to Blast Victims’ Families

Taichung: Shin Kong Mitsukoshi on Saturday pledged to give the families of four people killed in an explosion at its department store in Taichung NT$11 million (US$336,595) each.

According to Focus Taiwan, the company announced that the compensation package, which includes condolence money and insurance claims, aims to provide support and express sympathy to the victims' families. The tragic incident occurred due to a suspected gas explosion on Thursday, leading to the loss of four lives. Among the deceased were two individuals from Macau who were visiting Taichung with five other family members when debris from the explosion fell.

Following the incident, the Taichung department store has been ordered to suspend operations. Shin Kong Mitsukoshi stated that it has made all necessary arrangements to assist the victims' families in managing the aftermath of the tragedy.

In addition to addressing the needs of the victims' families, the department store is also focusing on the welfare of its employees. Shin Kong Mitsukoshi is providing necessary support and assistance, including paid leave, to ensure that the rights and well-being of their employees are maintained during this challenging time.
