Taipei Air Quality to Gradually Worsen Sunday Afternoon: Forecast

Taipei: The air quality in Taipei is expected to gradually worsen Sunday due to stagnant winds, possibly reaching unhealthy levels during the afternoon, according to the city's environmental department.

According to Focus Taiwan, the Taipei City Department of Environmental Protection stated in a social media announcement that forecasts indicated air quality across western Taiwan would deteriorate on Sunday as weak winds hinder pollution dispersal.

The department revealed that the air quality index (AQI) in the Taipei area is anticipated to exceed 150 in the afternoon, suggesting unhealthy air quality levels for all population groups.

In response to the anticipated air pollution, the department advised the public to minimize outdoor activities and to wear masks if they need to be outside.

According to the Ministry of the Environment (MOENV), air quality levels are predicted to reach unhealthy levels in every city and county in the western half of Taiwan on Sunday, except for Miaoli and Hsinchu.

As of 2 p.m., MOENV data indicated that air quality levels at most monitoring stations in western Taiwan were in the "moderate" to "unhealthy for sensitive groups" range.
