Taiwan adds half million NT$500 prizes to electronic receipt lottery

The number of NT$500 (US$16.34) winners in Taiwan's Cloud Uniform Invoice lottery is to be increased by 500,000 in a bid to encourage the use of paperless receipts, the Ministry of Finance (MOF) announced Friday.

According to the MOF, 2.15 million NT$500 winners will be selected in its remaining bi-monthly Cloud Uniform Invoice lotteries for receipts issued in the second half of 2022, starting with its draw of July-August invoices on Sept. 25.

The MOF added that electronic receipts are also eligible to win cash prizes in its regular bi-monthly Uniform Invoice lotteries.

Meanwhile, the number of electronic receipts issued in the second half of 2022 winning NT$1 million, NT$2,000, and NT$800 in the Cloud Uniform Invoice lottery will remain unchanged at 30, 16,000, and 100,000, respectively, according to the MOF.

With the additional winners, NT$1.217 billion is set to be given out in prizes for receipts issued between July and December, the MOF said.

Winners will be able to claim the prizes using the "uniform lottery redemption" app, which can store and check receipts and allows winners to have prizes sent directly to their bank accounts.

The mobile app, available for both Android and Apple devices, was launched by the MOF in January 2020.

Cloud receipts are generated by purchases of goods using credit cards and payment cards as well as apps where the uniform invoice is stored in the cloud.

Consumers who pay cash for goods can also store receipts in the cloud through credit cards or apps without having a paper receipt issued.
