Taiwan Issues Rain Alerts Amid Weather Front’s Approach

Taipei: The Central Weather Administration (CWA) has issued a torrential rain advisory for Miaoli County alongside heavy to extremely heavy rain alerts for several other areas as a weather front brings abundant moisture to the region. The advisories, effective from 11 a.m. Saturday, are expected to remain in place throughout the day. According to Focus Taiwan, the torrential rain advisory signifies accumulated rainfall of 350 mm or more within 24 hours, or over 200 mm within three hours. Areas under heavy to extremely heavy rain alerts include Hsinchu, Taichung, and Changhua. The CWA has advised the public to steer clear of rivers and avoid engaging in activities such as river tracing and fishing, due to the potential for rapidly rising streams. Independent meteorologist Wu Der-rong noted that the passing weather front will result in isolated showers or thunderstorms across the nation on Saturday. While northern Taiwan will experience cooler temperatures, the front is expected to weaken by Sunday. This will lead to isolated brief showers or thunderstorms, with rainfall gradually subsiding. Wu further indicated that Monday is likely to see mostly cloudy to sunny skies and warm weather across the country, although northern Taiwan might still encounter occasional brief showers. For the start of the week, unstable weather is forecasted across the region through Tuesday, with isolated showers or thunderstorms and occasional heavy rain, particularly in northern and mountainous areas. Wu anticipates that conditions will begin to stabilize on Wednesday, resulting in mostly cloudy to sunny skies, with some brief mountain showers possible.
