Taiwan Railway Urges Passengers to Follow Etiquette After Incidents

Hualien:Taiwan The Taiwan Railway (TRC) has called on passengers to adhere to proper train etiquette following two reported incidents involving foreign passengers on the Tze-Chiang 3000 Express Train No. 406.

According to Focus Taiwan, a conductor on the train intervened after observing a passenger with their legs propped against a train wall during a routine ticket check shortly after departing Hualien Station. The conductor requested the passenger to desist and reminded them of appropriate public behavior. The passenger complied and did not repeat the behavior in subsequent checks.

In another incident reported by a Facebook group for rail enthusiasts, a foreign passenger was alleged to have inflated a bed in the aisle of the same train. A photo was reportedly provided to support this claim. However, a conductor who inspected the car after receiving reports from Fenglin Station staff found no evidence of the behavior.

TRC emphasized the importance of maintaining public etiquette on trains. The company warned that passengers who fail to comply with staff requests to correct improper behavior risk facing consequences under Taiwan's Railway Act, which may include being refused further travel or arrest by the Railway Police Bureau.
