Taipei: Taiwan's Maritime and Port Bureau announced the suspension of all ferry services on eastern routes from noon Wednesday through the end of Saturday in anticipation of rough sea conditions caused by Typhoon Bavi. According to Focus Taiwan, the bureau issued a statement on Tuesday detailing additional service suspensions. Ferry routes between Keelung and Matsu, and between Yanpu and Xiaoliuqiu, will be halted from Thursday through Saturday. Services between Donggang and Xiaoliuqiu will face partial suspension on Thursday, with a complete suspension on Friday and Saturday. The Kaohsiung to Penghu ferry scheduled for Friday morning will instead depart on Thursday at 11 a.m., as all services on Friday are canceled, and no ferries are scheduled for Saturday. Other ferry services will continue as planned. The bureau has advised passengers to reconsider their travel plans, suggesting they return to Taiwan proper earlier than intended or delay trips to offshore islands to avoid potential stranding. Passenger s are encouraged to stay informed through updates from the Maritime and Port Bureau and ferry operators. As of 2 p.m. Tuesday, the Central Weather Administration reported that Typhoon Bavi's center was positioned approximately 1,930 kilometers east-southeast of Eluanbi, Taiwan's southernmost point, moving west-northwest at 25 kph.
