Taiwan takes delivery of first EMU3000 train with beverage bar

Taiwan on Sunday took delivery of the first special-edition EMU3000 intercity express train equipped with a beverage bar ordered from Japan, which will start operation next year, according to the Taiwan Railways Administration (TRA).

The train, part of an order of 50 EMU3000 design-award winning trains from Japanese conglomerate Hitachi, has 539 seats in 12 cars, including a car with a beverage counter, according to the TRA.

While the special train is painted white as with other EMU3000 trains, it is also decorated with a four-color strip that runs along the top of the carriage side, the agency said.

The colors of red, blue, green and yellow represents impressions of Taiwan — passion, intellectuality, serenity and fertility, respectively — TRA said.

The train is expected to start carrying passengers around the Lunar New Year in January, said Chen Shih-ben (陳詩本), head of the TRA’s rolling stock department.

The TRA will receive a further three of the special-edition trains, which travel at 130 kilometers per hour and will also provide group travel or charter services across Taiwan, Chen said.
